Feb. 4--The 79-acre parcel that makes up the neighborhood has been owned by the Brown family for hundreds of years. Much of the land is divided into small lots.

Linda Sullivan's father bought a waterfront cottage on Namquid Drive in Warwick's Gaspee Point in 1942 for $995. The land rent for the leased property was $35 a year.

Sullivan's father was a doctor in Providence, and his demanding schedule made commuting to the family's Bonnet Shores vacation house a nuisance, Sullivan recalled.
