Feb. 7--Sony Ericsson is a bit player in the U.S. cell phone business, with its phones tough to find. But globally, the phonemaker has seized the gee-whiz momentum that until recently was focused on rival Motorola Inc. It has increased both its profit and market share by capitalizing on Sony's famous brands, particularly via the Walkman music phone and Cyber-shot camera phone. Tuesday, Sony Ericsson sought to bolster its already strong position in music and camera phones by unveiling eight new models, many earmarked for overseas markets.
