Partial-breast irradiation for the treatment of early-stage breast cancer offers good to excellent cosmetic outcomes and a high level of patient satisfaction, according to a study in the Nov. 1, 2006, issue of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics. Researchers said future modifications to the technique would reduce treatment-related skin toxicity.
A noninvasive technique known as 3-D conformal partial-breast irradiation, or 3-D-CPBI, offers several advantages over invasive techniques. The treatment begins after final pathologic evaluation of margins, lymph nodes and other features that have an impact on recurrence risk. In addition, ...
