A SURGE in demand for long-haul flights has helped Scotland's main airports hit a record high for passengers last month.
New figures from airport operator BAA Scotland show the number of passengers flying on direct long-distance flights to and from Scotland rose by almost a third (31 per cent) to 50,762 during January.
Airline experts say the trend shows more flyers are opting to bypass costly and time-consuming transfers via other airports to book direct flights out of Scotland.
