Cats have been infected by bird flu virus, says UN
New York, Feb 9 (PTI) Cats can become infected with the highly lethal H5N1 bird flu virus, the United Nations warned today but advised against killing them as control option, saying there was no scientific evidence at present to suggest that there has been sustained transmission in cats or from cats to humans.
As a precaution, Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), recommended that cats should be separated from infected areas until the danger has passed and on commercial poultry premises, they should be indoors.
