IT WASN'T just the appointment of Steve Staunton that gave the game away -- it was what the gents in the FAI said before they gave him the job. That's when some of us knew we were screwed. They promised to recruit "a world class manager".
Oh dear, we said to ourselves. Those words, "world class", echo through so many of the fiascos we've come to accept as part of the political and social landscape in this great little nation.
