In order to discuss the identity of the Reformed Ecumenical Council and its ecumenical involvement, I must begin by explaining the difference between the word "Reformed" in Reformed Ecumenical Council and in, for example, the World Alliance of Reformed Churches. During the nineteenth century, Reformed churches in several countries were confronted with a movement of secessions in reaction to the influence of modern liberal theology in these churches.
