Client/server computing isn't for everyone, the president of technology firm told insurance company information systems officials recently.

"My advice to you is to seriously examine the goals you have set for moving to client/server" before getting off the mainframe, said Richard Finkelstein, president of links Technology Corp. in Chicago.

Speaking at the annual information systems conference of Des Plaines, Ill.-based National Association of Independent Insurers in Scottsdale, Ariz., Mr. Finkelstein advised the IS officials to set up a list of expected benefits from such a move "land then build up very slowly."
