Feb. 13--Everyone remembers high school graduation, maybe not the night of graduation but at least the ceremony itself. You're forced to smile for cameras held by relatives you hardly recognize, you have to stand up straight, you have to hug your grandma and you have to get along with your siblings.

If Assembly Bill 183 is approved, hugging relatives isn't all graduates will have to worry about. Initiated by Assemblyman Joe Coto, D-San Jose, the bill would require graduating high school students who are U.S. citizens to register to vote in order to obtain their diploma.
