Feb. 14--As area restaurants prepare to entice thousands of diners during this weekend's Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, many are working to snare extra kitchen help as well.
Entry-level restaurant workers such as line cooks are in short supply these days, as an increasing number of restaurants compete for an employee pool that declined sharply when Johnson & Wales University closed its Charleston culinary campus last spring.
An expanded culinary program at Trident Technical College is helping fill some gaps, but the demand for hourly workers is still greater than the supply, restaurateurs say.
