Feb. 14--The cabinet has scrapped import taxes on new cars powered by natural gas as part of a plan to increase the use of alternative fuels.
The exemption would apply to CKD (completely knocked-down) imports that were solely powered by natural gas, said Somchai Sujjapongse, the deputy director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office.
The measure is aimed at encouraging auto assemblers to invest in natural gas technology and help reduce the country's dependence on imported oil.
