Feb. 15--YOKOHAMA -- Japan Tobacco Inc., the nation's largest cigarette vendor, asked employees to vote against enacting a local government ordinance banning smoking in public places in an Internet poll, which in the end drew more votes against than those for, company officials said Thursday.
The company asked about 200 employees and others to cast votes in the poll conducted by the Kanagawa prefectural government to ask the public about instituting the ordinance, which, if enacted, would be the first in the country.
