UK authorities confirm Hungary bird flu link but rule out illegal poultry imports as cause
BUDAPEST. FEBRUARY 16. INTERFAX CENTRAL EUROPE - British authorities said Friday that a recent outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu in the east of England probably came from Hungary but found no evidence that it was transmitted through illegal poultry imports.
The statement released by Defra (The Department for Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs) was based on two reports: one epidemiological, looking into the source of the outbreak; the other investigating an alleged link to illegal poultry imports from Hungary.
