In the nearly eight years since construction contractor A. Williams Trucking was tapped by Crain's for a small business award, revenues have barely budged and staffing levels have nudged up only slightly.
Those numbers mask much. In recent years, the 27-year-old company has quietly shifted its sights toward becoming not just a builder, but also something potentially far more lucrative.
"We do not want this company to remain an excavation and foundation contractor,'' says Chief Executive Dolly Williams, who co-founded the firm with her ex-husband, Carl. "We want to move into development.''
