It's 10:30 p.m. and the rink at the Madison Ice Arena is a mosaic of colors as if it were painted by Degas -- all sinuous figures and blurred lines of red and black.
The buzzing fluorescent lights glint off members of the UW-Madison synchronized skating team as they glide in unison, fashioning a linked circle that spins across the ice like a carnival tilt-a-whirl one minute, melding into four straight sashaying lines punctuated by complex footwork the next.
