ABSTRACT

L-arginine is an essential amino acid that exerts both peripheral and central nervous system effects. Although it has been used as a growth hormone releasing agent, this amino acid also provokes significant blood pressure and heart rate changes in all patients tested. This study assessed the changes induced by the oral administration of this amino acid on the peripheral autonomic nervous system in 52 subjects (26 L-arginine, 26 placebo).
