One of the best theatre evenings in Toronto this year was Eclectic Theatre's production of Assassins, a little-known work by Stephen Sondheim. The musical did poorly when it opened in New York and this was its Canadian premiere. It proved to be a sold-out success in Toronto, however, where the run was extended twice and talks to remount it are already in progress.
Assassins is typical Sondheim material in that it features unusual subject matter which prompts one to wonder beforehand: a MUSCIAL about PRESIDENTIAL ASSASSINS?!?
