and apparently determined, at about three steps, on the other side of a log which separated us from the Chobe River. Every@ body had long gone to bed, but I was sopping up Africa. It had been a while since I worked as a professional hunter, and I was again enjoying the ambiance of the bush filtering through my pores. Sure, I scared that bull hyena away with my shout. But it was he that brought back the essence of Africa. I was indeed home: A hyena had tried to eat me, or at least portions thereof.
