William Daley was named emeritus professor at Philadelphia's University of the Arts in 1990 and received the College Art Association's award for distinguished teaching of art in `91. He arrived in Philly in 1957 and within a decade had established a signature style in ceramics that carried him to national prominence in that field. From the earliest of the 40-some works in this survey (curated by Matthew Drutt for the Levy Gallery at Moore College of Art), it's clear that Daley has always preferred decisive shapes and carved contours.
