NEW YORK _ A crude firebomb exploded inside a stationary subway car in Lower Manhattan on Wednesday, turning the station platform into a grim stage on which hundreds of panicked riders scurried for cover from the flames.
Witnesses reported hearing two loud pops, then an explosion as a southbound train to Brooklyn sat in the Fulton Street station with its doors open. The explosion created a fireball in the rear of the sixth car and injured at least 37 people, four critically, safety officials said.
