Podcasts have become popular in the last few years; even "The New Oxford American Dictionary" declared the word "podcast" its 2005 word of the year. But what is it, and how can it benefit your business?
For the uninitiated, a "podcast" is a multimedia file--usually audio --distributed by subscription over the Internet. A podcast is different from other audio formats because it is automatically downloaded using special software. Podcasts are driven by a technology called "Real Simple Syndication" (RSS), an XML-based format for content distribution. Pictures, video and text can all be published in RSS.
