Feb. 21--INDEPENDENCE -- Buchanan County officials are looking at a hefty bill for repairs to the aging jail's plumbing and electrical systems. Preliminary quotes from two Waterloo contractors show the county could spend more than $239,000 to bring the facility up to state corrections code in those two areas. Supervisors hired the contractors to provide preliminary estimates after State Jail Inspector Mike Richardson told them in December the jail again failed his review.
