The Central New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals needs to find homes for more than 300 cats that have packed its shelter to three times its capacity.
The lack of space caused the SPCA to reduce its adoption fee from $89.50 to $20 Tuesday.
Executive Director Paul Morgan said the reduced fee will continue through the end of March.
"We're overcrowded," Morgan said. "We're trying to lower the population and find good homes for them."
The SPCA shelter's maximum capacity for cats ranges from 100 to 120, Morgan said.
