"The story of redevelopment in Reno really begins with the river," said Reno Redevelopment Agency Interim Administrator John MacIntyre.

For years, the community turned its back on the Truckee River, which courses through the center of the city, but more recently, "the community has reclaimed the Truckee River as its own," he added.

McIntyre led participants along the Raymond I. Smith River Walk during the Mobile Workshop, The Living River: Recreational, Economical and Environmental Resources of the Truckee River, at the recent Congress of Cities as he high-lighted the city's efforts to diversify its economy and lure people downtown.
