SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 28, 1994--Enhancing its position as a worldwide leader in wireless communications, AirTouch Communications, Inc. (NYSE: ATI) today announced that its Spanish consortium has won the second digital cellular license in Spain. AirTouch will be a lead partner, with a 15.78 percent interest, and will have primary responsibility for the venture's technical operations.
The new company, which will operate under the name Airtel, will construct and operate a nationwide digital cellular network based on the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) standard. The company expects to begin service in most of the major cities by the ...
