Feb. 22--An industry dogged by a history of potions and magic tricks has earned a degree of legitimacy. A laser-emitting comb was approved by the Food and Drug Administration last week as a medical device to promote hair growth -- the first drug-free treatment the federal agency has approved to fight baldness. "The biggest problem in the hair-loss industry is credibility. Most people have been ripped off," said Bill Blatter, president of the Hair Loss Control Clinic in Latham.
