County hits Palo Alto for sewage cleanup charges: Council working on resolving county claim.

Feb. 22--Palo Alto is still cleaning up a legal mess caused by a sewage overflow two years ago in a local health clinic for which Santa Clara County says the city owes upwards of $36,000. The City Council met in closed session this week to discuss the claim filed in August by the county requesting payment for cleaning up after the December 2004 incident at the North County Mental Health Clinic, located at 231 Grant St. in Palo Alto. The city has not yet taken any reportable action. Palo Alto Assistant City Attorney Donald Larkin said Wednesday that the city would not usually accept a claim for damages filed so long after the incident occurred. ...
