It was nightfall. Caesar was at his desk in his headquarters at the royal palace in Alexandria, Egypt. In his palm was the signet ring of Pompey the Great, a painful reminder of recent tragic events. His partnership to rule Rome with his friend Pompey had worked well until they both wanted more power. Pompey had declared war against him. What other choice did Caesar have but to fight?
