Johannesburg - Lonmin's faulty number one furnace would cost an extra $1.2 million (R8.5 million) to repair, the firm said yesterday. It extended the time for the repair of the facility by another 55 days.

In mid-December, platinum producer Lonmin shut its number one furnace after a leak occurred. The company initially expected the repairs to the furnace would take between 30 and 40 days. In January, Lonmin extended its forecast for the repair of the furnace to 80 days.

The platinum mining company said yesterday the timetable to restart the furnace had now been extended to about 135 days, including furnace warm-up.
