Feb. 23--Lowcountry Food Bank Inc. officials knew they were supposed to leave their warehouse two years ago, but 100,000 square feet of affordable warehouse and office space isn't easy to find.

Jermaine Husser, Food Bank executive director, said he was close to sealing a deal on a new home last month, but a higher bidder came in. Currently, the food bank operates rent-free in a 37,000 square foot warehouse.

The food bank moved to the former Charleston Naval Base property in 1998. According to its five-year lease agreement with the Charleston Naval Complex Redevelopment Authority, the agency could use the space rent-free ...
