LOSS OF PATENT protection on Pfizer's Zoloft last year caused analysts to raise warning flags about the whole class. But the surprisingly strong performance of Forest Labs' Lexapro brought reassuring news.
Forest said last month that Lexapro earned $545.9 million for the three months ended Dec. 31, compared to $480.7 million in the period a year prior. That's a 13.6% gain for the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), which is indicated for the initial and maintenance treatment of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder.
