Abstract
This study aimed, firstly, to determine whether 22-day and 9-day courses at Outward Bound New Zealand (OBNZ) enhanced participants' personal and interpersonal development and, secondly, to develop a greater understanding of how the outcomes were achieved. A mixed methodology was used involving a self-concept questionnaire and semi-open-ended written responses six months after the end of the courses. The findings indicated that the main outcomes of the OBNZ courses were aspects of personal development and interpersonal effectiveness, particularly improved self-confidence and better relationships.
