QUESTION: What is being done to develop and promote the non-oil sectors of Azerbaijan's economy?

ANSWER FROM SULEYMANOV: The economy reached an unprecedented 35 percent growth rate in 2006 and is indeed fueled mostly by energy. Increasingly, though, the most impressive growth is taking place in areas such as transportation, communications and construction. We realize the urgent need to diversify our economy and avoid long-term overdependence on the oil sector.
