The documentary God Grew Tired of Us is a story of courage, determination and compassion that won the Grand Jury prize last year at the Sundance Film Festival.
From 1983 to 2005, civil war raged in Sudan, killing millions in the Christian southern areas and leading thousands of refugee boys from the Dinka tribe, ranging in age from 3to 13, to march hundreds of miles to safe camps in Ethiopia and, later, in Kenya. The girls were enslaved. Those who survived that pilgrimage became known as "the lost boys," a phrase coined by a French journalist borrowing from the Peter Pan fable.
