COLONIE - Becky Staples and the rest of her Academy of the Holy Names girls' basketball teammates did not want Tuesday night to be their season's swan song.
Thanks to several clutch plays from Staples, Bethany Deer and Jessica Walton, Holy Names' title quest continues.
Fourth-seeded Holy Names closed the game on a 12-2 surge and advanced to the Section II Class A final with a 60-52 victory over top-seeded Averill Park.
The opponent for Holy Names (17-5) in Saturday's championship game at Hudson Valley Community College will be third-seeded Ichabod Crane (19-3). Game time is 1:45 p.m.
