U.S. ambassador backs international nuclear fuel bank (Part 2)

MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - The U.S. authorities favor the idea of creating an international nuclear fuel bank, U.S. Ambassador to Russia William Burns said in Moscow on Thursday.

Congressman Tom Lantos proposed the establishment of an international nuclear fuel bank during his visit to Moscow last week.

He also proposed exercising strict international control over uranium enrichment and spent fuel recycling capacities, reflecting the common interest of the United States and Russia in reinforcing the nonproliferation regime.
