If films can be "intelligent about life," why can't they also be "intelligent about death?" Such a premise was the starting point of Robin Wood's address at this year's Literature/Film Association Conference at Towson University (the address titled, modestly enough, "Films about Dying: Ikiru, Wild Strawberries, and Son Frere").
