Mar. 3--Sam Brenner still delights in selling the most ubiquitous of items in a man's wardrobe -- the navy blue jacket.

After 57 years as a clothing merchant, "The most challenging thing I have to do is figuring out what some customers want," Brenner says.

But solving that puzzle with tact and a sense of humor has kept 78-year-old Brenner in business, despite decades of change in the retail industry and the custom-made apparel operation his father founded in 1928.
