Mar. 4--Ever been to SoHo? Chances are, if you've done the tourist thing in New York City anytime recently, you have. And there's a good reason you went there -- SoHo is a destination neighborhood. But if the last time you were in New York was right around the time when, say, Ronald Reagan replaced Jimmy Carter, chances are you've never set foot in Manhattan's once-iffy/edgy, now-mainstream artsy neighborhood.
Such is the life cycle of gentrification -- especially when fueled by artists. Driven by the need for both work and living space -- but so often held back by the too-frequent financial diss of being an artist ...
