The boom in homes selling for more than pounds 250,000 in Wales and England was laid bare by new figures today. A set of building society statistics showed the number of such sales had quadrupled in five years. The Halifax said the figures raised concerns about the impact of higher rates of stamp duty, which rises from 1% to 3% at the pounds 250,000 threshold, on homeowners.
