Weatherby rifles are built strong, can shoot powerful magnum cartridges, and are made in Japan. Right? Not any longer. Starting this month, and coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the company in 1995, all Weatherby Mark V rifles will be made in the United States.
Back in August, in a secret briefing to selected members of the shooting press, company president Ed Weatherby explained that the continued depreciation of the American dollar in Japan prompted his search for a plant that could make his rifles in the U.S. The search, begun several years ago, ended in Saco, Maine, at the doors of Saco Defense Inc.
