The banks of New York's Hudson River have long been associated with big-name artists and divine houses, in the 19th century, Frederic Edwin Church. Thomas Cole and Albert Bierstadt were among the painters who found inspiration in the region's steely waters and lush valley and became known as the Hudson River School. Church was so revered that his palatial, Moorish-style villa, Olana, became a pilgrimage destination. with an endless queue of visitors lining up to admire its splendors and meet Church himself.
