Heavyweights lead Chinese stock market rebound

Shanghai. March 6. INTERFAX-CHINA - China's stock market posted a modest rebound on Tuesday following the previous session losses in response to the heavy plunge in Japan and Hong Kong.

Both Japanese and Hong Kong stock markets posted a strong rally today, helping ease unrest among A-share investors.

The benchmark Shanghai composite index (SCI) rose 54.87 points, or 1.97 percent, finishing the day at 2,840.18 points. The counterpart Shenzhen composite index gained 0.74 percent ending at 731.19 points.

Heavyweight blue chips led the broad market rally in the four-hour trading streak.
