PLANS were unveiled yesterday for a "spectacular" pounds 5.5bn development of Liverpool's waterfront to rival cities such as New York, Vancouver and Shanghai.
The Liverpool Waters scheme will transform 150 acres of derelict land on the banks of the River Mersey into an international waterside destination.
Plans include 50 buildings - many more than 50 storeys high and powered by integral wind turbines - marinas, a monorail, bars, restaurants and a cruise liner terminal.
Developers The Peel Group claim the 21m square foot scheme will create 17,000 new full-time jobs and increase Liverpool's population by 50,000.
