Video game retail sales trends recorded this past Christmas season may hold signs of things to come in 1995.
Overall, video game sales for Christmas 1994 were not able to match 1993's, said one speciality software retailer, who described the chain's Christmas game sales as "weaker than" those a year before.
"We have been trying to defy the laws of gravity all this year in the 16-bit game category," said Cathy Preston, software buyer for Software Etc. "We kind of kept dragging 16-bit through--it's not meeting our expectations."
