Is it a sign of incipient madness to sympathise with Carol Ann Hunter, the millionaire who hired a hit man to kill her ex?
The 50-year-old company director was jailed for eight years at the Old Bailey in London this week.
Judge Brian Barker described her crime as "breathtaking both in its audacity and its coldness", yet even he seemed to feel a twinge of pity for a woman scorned; her story, he said, "seems to have touched just about every human emotion".
