Mar. 7--What took "Pageant" so long to make it to Long Island? The queen of beauty-contest musicals has played all over the world since it opened at midtown Manhattan's Blue Angel in 1991. Bush the Elder was president and American troops were fighting Iraq War I. Yet "Pageant" doesn't feel dated. At long last, we get to play the audience at a Glamouresse made-for-TV beauty pageant -- Glamouresse being a line of women's cosmetics. The joke is that there isn't a woman in sight.
Surely, it isn't the cross-dressing that has kept Long Island "Pageant"-deprived all these years. Hundreds of performances of "La Cage aux Folles" have ...
