Mar. 7--With a surge of spring break visitors expected in the next few weeks, public safety agencies are prepping to keep Destin's beaches and its visitors safe.
Joe D'Agostino, chief of the Destin Beach Safety Patrol, said his lifeguards will hit the beach Friday.
In dealing with springbreakers, D'Agostino said he's been stressing prevention in the weeks leading up to the busy tourist season.
"It's a lot easier for us to advise someone of a dangerous situation than it is to rescue them.
"Talking is a whole lot easier than swimming," he said.
