A new study further underscores the importance of treating sleep-related breathing disorders (SRBD).
The study, published in the Sept. 18 Archives of Internal Medicine, found that SRBD raised the risk of depression among 1,408 men and women 30 to 60 years old. Compared with people who had no SRBD, those who had minimal cases (defined as having five or fewer episodes of reduced or paused breathing per hour of sleep) were 1.6 times as likely to suffer depression, according to the study.
