Introduction
The number of recognized genera in the subfamily Eptatretinae is still controversial, with various specialists recognizing only Eptatretus Cloquet, 1819 (e.g., Strahan, 1975; Fernholm, 1998; Chen et al., 2005), Eptatretus and Paramyxine Dean, 1904 (e.g., Mok, 2001), Eptatretus and Quadratus Wisner, 1999 (e.g., Froese and Pauly, 2005), or Eptatretus, Paramyxine, and Quadratus (e.g., Wisner, 1999; McMillan and Wisner, 2004; Mok and McMillan, 2004).
